The 25th edition of basic electricity seems to be a special one: Mark Verbos and Perpetual Ash will be performing. Both beeing experts on the subject of traditional 60s and 70s westcoast synthesis and for transforming it into exciting and expressive new art.
From the Basic Electricity website:
Mark Verbos makes music and modules. After 20 years of producing and performing in some of the most significant venues around the world, the former Buchla tech set up his own synthesizer company, Verbos Electronics. Mark Verbos is known for his unique live sets, which he improvises on the modular system he designed. Perpetual Ash is music made by Ashley M Puente – a performer, improviser, and visual artist – using a Eurorack modular and other electronics. Her music and visual artwork are inspired by the 60’s and 70’s light and space movement that emerged in California.

Basic Electricity might be the longest running modular synthesizer event in Berlin. It returns to König Otto in Neukölln on 24th of November for its 24 edition. Basic Electricity usually has two or more concerts per evening, very well curated artists and a conceptual focus on exploring and experiencing sound.
Basic Electricity #24:
Thomas Ankersmit explores the boundaries of sound with his Serge modular synthesizer. He has shaken the walls and cast his inner-ear illusions in venues like Berlin’s Berghain and the Tate Modern in London.
Konstantine Fioretos contests the notion of what constitutes a modular performance, exploring jazz and contemporary orchestral music forms by probing at the hidden opportunities inside obsolete MIDI sound devices.
König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. It’s an amazing space with a great ambient sound. We’re looking forward to seeing you on November 24th for Basic Electricity #24!
