News: Neuzeit Instruments Drop

Where control meets creativity
Written by Sacha Ketterlin on .

Neuzeit Instruments Drop is more than just another standard MIDI controller.

It doesn’t just control your DAW or synthesizers – and it’s definitely not some flimsy plastic box. Instead, it combines a sleek, robust design with maximum functionality and integrates seamlessly into your modular setup – without the need for an extra MIDI-to-CV interface. And then there’s the feature that gives it its name … Drop.

With Drop, you can save the current state of all controls as a snapshot. A total of 20 banks with 20 snapshots each are at your disposal. You can fade them in manually, fire them instantly with Jump, or schedule them precisely in time using the Drop function. This means a snapshot will launch exactly at the end of a 1–32 bar cycle – perfectly synced to the beat. The display gives you a clear view of your position within the bar.

For hands-on control, Drop gives you 32 push encoders, 8 mute buttons, and 8 faders across two layers. Alongside USB-C, it also provides 4 MIDI inputs and outputs plus 2 CV ins and 2 CV outs for clocks and control voltages.

As a true control hub, Drop keeps your entire setup locked in the groove – with per-port, millisecond-accurate delay settings for MIDI clock. Thanks to flexible macro mapping with up to 8 targets and custom response curves per control, it adapts perfectly to your workflow. Incoming MIDI data can even be merged with Drop’s own output, making complex performances a breeze.

Despite all this depth, operation remains fast and intuitive: mapping is quick and easy on the display. Supported are CCs (including 14-bit), Notes, Program and Bank Changes, Aftertouch, and Pitchbend. And as a bonus, Drop can even double as a clip launcher in Ableton Live and Bitwig.
