Techno wouldn't be the same without the distinctive sound of the TR-909 – this rare machine is extremely sought-after, and if you find one, you'll pay a lot of money for it. That's why many have tried to copy the TR-909. One of the first to get it right was Jürgen Michaelis from Jomox. His Berlin-made Xbase-09 was an extremely successful example of a drum machine that could compete with the powerful sound of the 909. The Xbase-09 was not a clone, but inspired by the most important sounds of the 909 – the kick, snare and sample-based hi-hats. Andreas Schneider and Jürgen Michaelis sold the original Xbase to the Berlin techno scene and beyond – so not only is Mark Verbo's musical history linked to the TR-909, but also Andreas Schneider's career history.
