Workshop 11th August: BIRDKIDS’ new 42HP system

Dear modularists!

On August, 11th we will again hold our monthly beginners workshop. This time we took the opportunity and invited Michael from the superb Vienna based company BIRDKIDS. We will use their newly introduced 42hp BATELEURsystem to go through basics of patching and sound generation. Aiming at beginners and professionals alike the system convinced us with his  stunning sound quality – also thanks to the the BATELEUR thruZero Oscillator at its core. It strikes the right balance between easy and straightforward interface and a high degree of complexity. We invite everybody that is interested…

Workshop July 21st: Ornaments & Crime (or: how to design a module)

new

It’s about time to reveal the topic for our special workshop and special guest: We are going to have a close look at the ornaments and crime module. Mainly the work of three people who met through muffwiggler, O&C is a prime example of what the Eurorack DIY community is capable of.

O&C is filling a gap: it is the only 16bit accurate microtonal quantizer. A quad one!! And much more… As it is based on Teensy many other applications are also possible: quadrature wavetable LFO, shift register, Euclidean rhythm generator, envelope generator…

Have a look at it:https://github.com/mxmxmx/O_C

We are going to discuss the design history, the programming, its functionality. The developer Max Stadler (mxmxmx on mw) will be present and together we are happy to answer all your questions.

Please register: write Thomas tc@schneidersladen.de for confirmation.

Workshop takes place on july 21st at 6pm in our showroom (Kotti above Kaisers)!

Workshop / Performance with Richard Scott Thursday 26th

Richard-Scott-in-red-1

Up next at Schneidersladen: this month, on Thursday the 26th at 6 pm  we have invited Richard Scott to talk about his improvisation technique on the Eurorack Modular Synth. Please save the date for a bunch of fun and some insight on patching and live performance.

Richard Scott is a free improvising musician and electroacoustic composer working with electronics including modular synthesizers and controllers such as the Buchla Thunder and Lightning and his own self-designed WiGi infrared controller. He has been composing and performing for over 25 years, recently working with Evan Parker, Jon Rose, Richard Barrett, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Shelley Hirsch, Ute Wasserman, Michael Vorfeld, Frank Gratkowski and his own Lightning Ensemble. He studied free improvisation with John Stevens, saxophone with Elton Dean and Steve Lacy, and electroacoustic composition with David Berezan and Ricardo Climent. He has released many albums, for example with Grutronic and Evan Parker for PSI records, The Magnificence of Stereo (sruti BOX) and has a solo double modular synthesizer LP, Several Circles, and an album with Sidsel Endreson, Debris in Lower Earth Orbit, both released by CUSP Editions in 2016. He is involved with several concert series in Berlin: Basic Electricity, AUXXX, Klangkeller and Sound Anatomy

Richard will perform two pieces on his suitcase modular and discuss the nature of improvisation and performance with a modular synthesizer. He will talk about his own history using analogue and digital tools in performance. Issues such as control, randomness and interface and the problems of deigning a small portable but extremely flexible modular, developing an individual aesthetic and the nature of musical time, the cosmos and the meaning of life may well be discussed!

Entry will cost 6-12 Euros

Workshop: Ipad and your modular feb 25th feat.MODSTEP & ZMORS

03112014784Workshop: Ipad and your modular (feat. The nice people of MODSTEP and ZMORS) / feb25th.6pm.

Dear modularists,

After our workshop last month where we dealt with cleverly integrating a modular synth in a DAW environment, this month we ll have a look at what the world of Apps is offering and how we can use these with a modular synth, where you ll also have a chance to talk to developers.

Touch devices were rather science fiction like 10 years ago and are now ubiquituous. Out of the zillion apps avaibale we chose two of which we think that they represent the most interesting when it comes to our concerns.

ZMORS is a modular synth in the vein of the legendary nord modular and offers plenty of connectivity to the outside world. Via expert sleepers ES-3 you can have a whole suite of modulators, oscs, lfos avaible to interact with your system.

While MODSTEP is the hardwaresequencer we always dreamed of. Be it through expert sleepers or a MIDI to CV module. We will have a look on how the functionality of MODSTEP can have an impact on your system.

Both the developers Benjamin Weiss(MODSTEP) and Sven Braun (ZMORS) will be present and will happily answer all your questions!

Workshop is feb 25th at 6pm in our showroom (kotti above Kaisers)

Limited to 17 (J) participants. Please register : tc@schneidersladen.de

A-100 Zeichenmaschine

Ame Zek’s new album “Streams”

ame_zek Our Friend Ame Zek has his new album “Streams” out.

Ame Zek is a musician, composer and sound artist based in Berlin. His live performances in different constellations and his constant, research-driven process of making music steered him to the shores of microtonality and the abundant periphery of musicianship. Where music becomes sound ‒ that’s where Ame Zek forges his heavily saturated modulations and transformations. ‘S t r e a m s’ is his second full-length album, following Rostfrei LP (2014, Keep It Business).

is it contemporary elctronic music …. or how to discripe it?
….Streams are randomizations of movements, tempos and directions. They provide backgrounds, channel influences and thus condition our existence. Vigilant harnessing of these forces is imperative as they gather more and more nuances of unpredictability in the urban digital world. These surges signify all types of flows in our contemporary virtual and natural surroundings which include information about our emotional, spiritual and intellectual vitality. Streams are now all around us for us to feel them, to be intrigued by them, and also to be mindful when letting ourselves become entangled in them.As musical ‘reactions’ and creations streams are direct response on intense personal experience of the binding power of morphing underwater currents and digital algorhytmic changes  of today in one.
